How To Play Craps
1/12/2008
Of all in the casino games out there, craps is one of the most social and exciting games. People off play together, win together or lose together. It is not uncommon for people to bet on other people’s dice rolls. If you have never played, craps seems intimidating. It has a variety of bets that make it fun but also difficult to learn.

Here are some basics on how to play craps:
You are betting either for or against the person rolling the dice. Each b round begins with what is called the “come-out” roll. If the come out is a 2, 3, 7, 11 or 12, the round ends and bets are paid immediately.

On any other result, the number that comes up is called a “point number.”There are a myriad of bets available to the player. The most common is the pass. It wins if a 7 or 11 is rolled and loses if a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled. One the point number is established, the pass bet wins if the point number is rolled again before a 7 or 11 comes up. If the 7 or 11 hits, the pass bet loses.

The pass bet is the one most craps players bet and is the one you should stick to when just getting started at the game.

The opposite of the pass bet is the 'don’t pass' bet. If the come out roll is 2 or 3, you win, 7 or 11 you lose.

You can also double bet after this wager, by “laying the odds.” Now you are betting a 7 will come out before the point.

The key to successful craps play understands these two basic wagers. Once you have them down, you can start expanding your bets accordingly. However make sure you understand the best. Try playing for free online before going to a real casino.

Once you have these bets down, you can try some of the more advanced wagers.
1. Come bet: This bet is just like the pass line bet, only it can be made at any time.

2. Don’t come: The opposite of a come bet and the same as a don’t pass bet that is made on a roll that is not a come-out roll.

3. Place bets: A place bet is one made on the “place” numbers – 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10.

4. Buy bets: Similar to the place bets in that you are betting on the point rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 with a different payoff from the place bet.

5. Hard ways: These bets are so named because it is the “hard way” to hit a number. A hard 6 bet, for example, would be betting that two threes are rolled before a seven, or any other way to roll a six (4/2, 5/1). You can also bet hard ways on 4, 8 and 10 with the same rule applying.

6. Lay bet: This is the opposite of the buy bet, in that you are betting that a seven will be rolled before whichever number you pick from the 4, 5, 6, 8, 8 or 10.

There also proposition bets:
Crap 2: You are betting that a 2 will be thrown on the next roll.

1. Crap 3: Same thing with a 3.

2. 7: Same thing with a 7.

3. 11: Same thing with an 11.

4. 12: Same thing with a 12.

5. Any craps: Same bet with a 2, 3 or 12.

In general, these bets are losers. You should stick to the basics if you want to be successful in winning at craps.
